Rock Bottom is the name for the caldera that houses Newtown. It is full of bubbling pools heated by volcanic activity, and blanketed by clouds of steam. There are numerous crude settlements in the crater, eking out a meagre existence, while the group known as The Garbagemen sift through the detritus of the city, reusing what they can and burning and burying the rest.
