The Chokes is the district that underhangs the city, a network of walkways, ladders and crudely constructed dwellings that wind around the enormous pillars of the geothermal power plant’s thermal exchange system. This area is swamped in foul-smelling steam and acrid fumes issuing from the volcanic pools below, and is also subject to ‘crapfalls’ from Newtown venting it’s sewage and rubbish. There are numerous ways of climbing through the Chokes between Rock Bottom and Bowler, but most are monitored by agents of Kathos
